New York Fashion Week Fall 2011 officially kicks off February 10th 2010. In an attempt to bring some Fun into the Fashion Funhouse Emporium blog, I have instituted a new rating system for the season.
Why Karl Lagerfeld heads?
First, because its funny--to me at least. Second, is there anyone more apt to tell it like it is in the fashion business, or express himself without regard to how anybody might perceive his comments? Karl himself has said "I am like a caricature of myself, and I like that. It is like a mask. And for me the Carnival of Venice lasts all year long"
Karl thinks the world needs hookers and porn. Children make him look old. He claims he has no idea who Hiedi Klum is and neither does his pal Claudia Schiffer.
In a world of bull sh*t., he upholds the myths while snubbing them at the same time. Not only is he a caricature of himself, but the fashion industry as a whole. Its hypocritical, is aspirational, its inclusive and exclusive all at the same time.
Here is how Karl's head will rate the shows:

Four Karl heads: Karl says "I hate intellectual conversation with intellectuals because I only care about my opinion." And Karl Approves.
Congratulations, its a coherent collection, the inspiration coincides with your designs. It is creative and interesting. Craftsmanship is impeccable.

Three Karl Heads: They have ugly teeth and I think they're dressed repulsively. It's the mood that may be interesting."
The collection has its own vibe, and conventionally and commercially, its not the norm. But in common terms, it's good.

Two Karl heads: "Chic is a kind of mayonnaise, either it tastes, or it doesn't"
Its doesn't knock Karl off his Chanel-clad feet, but its not bad.

One Karl head: "I have no human feelings"
Karl has nothing to say.
**Shows or presentations occuring before February 10th are exempt from the wrath of Karl's head.
