Fall Runways showed a return to color and red was one of the hottest hues. Though if you looked at it wondered, "Can I pull this off?" The answer is yes. Red coats and shoes are more versatile than you think. It's hard to find a color that won't look right. You can pair bright red with bright pink or rich purple for a color block look. From camel, dark gray, black and even dark denim, you can own a red coat and boots and know that you'll wear them this winter more than once.
What's fun about this color is that with so many designers and various prices you can make your own version of red style: Lady-like, sporty, sophisticated and even bohemian.
I love tassel necklaces. Long necklaces, really, are a perfect compliment to dress up any outfit. Add to a t-shirt for instant chic. Lux designers like Eddie Borgo
and Nicole Romano's
unique designs can complete your cocktail look. While an owl tassel is cute for you younger girls! Whether your style is bohemian, rock and roll, or even vintage throwback, you can find a tassel necklace in your style and price range this fall.
We dig kooky Karl Lagerfeld over here. From the things he says that can be completely contradictory, to his veiled persona. And in case you haven't heard yet, not only did he launch a line for Macy's, hes now working on Karl, a lower priced line of his signature rock-influenced staples exclusively with Net-a-Porter.
We even love to use Karl's head instead of stars to rate our fashion week shows. This is why we put together this costume for our fashion icon Halloween costume features. Guy or Girl, you can pull of the look of Karl Lagerfeld.
Okay, the best I could do for Karl's famed pony-tail hair is a colonial wig. But, I would probably say that given Mr.Coco Chanel's eccentric throw backs, he probably was thinking about powdered wigs when claiming his hairstyle. As for bottoms, sometimes he wears jeans, so add a black pair of skinnies and your good to go!
Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction and Liza Minelli from Cabaret are still getting plenty of attention so we thought we'd try some other costume ideas.
Coco Chanel probably doesn't need an introduction, but just in case you missed the movies, the shows and every other "influenced by" piece, we'll tell you.
While her clothing was considered quite refined, she was a bit punk for her time. Coco Chanel put upscale women in little black dresses, which at the time were only worn by servants and mourners! yipes. Then to top it off, she thumbed her nose at the makers of fine jewelry and said I can make pretty pieces too, and they are fake.
So don't worry if you cant afford Chanel for this costume. We think Coco would get a kick out of what you pull together.
When it comes to sheer shirts, some people have a one track mind. Let me just layer a black shirt over it over a black bra. While this can work for more adventurous ladies, some of us aren't ready for the full frontal exposure. The next time you're shopping and pass it by a see through shirt because you're not sure how to pull it off, just remember these tips for a less va vavoom look.
Tips for Sheer Tops
1) Over Instead of Under- Instead of just putting a camisole or bra under a top, try a vest or a jacket over top. If done right, you can wear sheer to work like with the look above!
2) Texture Underneath - Instead of just a bra or plain camisole, add a sequin top like this one from Tibi or patterned style. With the sheer on top, the undershirt is muted, but still visible for an extra chic look.
3) Less is More- A sheer top is already a statement piece so avoid leather skirts, animal print or bottoms that are too sexy. Like your mom said, you don't want to give away the whole cow...or something like that.
With cold weather on its way, its time to shop for boots. With so many styles, heights and colors, how do you choose? Ankle boots are back and big for fall. If you're tired of the same old motorcycle boots or stiletto booties, check out these Aquatalia ankle boots for a modern take on the Granny style boots. But how do you wear them without looking like you just stepped out of Colonial days?
This style is a play on the great outdoors. A parka (another trend for fall) paired with a plaid skirt with a cool cut, clashed with snowflake socks is a fun look for these suede rived boots. Dont worry, it works because the red socks tie into the the color in skirt. When mixing patterns, big with small in the same color palette goes. Short socks with this skirt keeps it young, seasonal and fun!
