Anjelica Houston, now in pushing 60 years old, is still working the screen with her chiseled cheekbones, dark hair and strong nose. I don't know about you but Im tired of the young, blond worship when it comes to style. In fact, Anjeclica once said of her own looks: "There were times when I hated my nose. But you grow up and you start to recognize that maybe it wasn't a bad thing that you weren't born Barbie."
When it comes to fashion spreads and the red carpet, there is no way to ignore that deep alluring face and no gloss style. An out of the ordinary muse, who I must admit kind of reminds me of the way my mother looked, she's been in quirky film after film including The Royal Tanenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and The Postman Always Rings Twice.
The top picture of Angelica, in the hat was taken by Bob Richardson (father of the infamous Terry Richardson) who is credited as revolutionizing American fashion spreads, taking them from prim and proper to dark, gritty and emotional.
Mention Barbara Striesand and you'll get a mixed array of opinions. In all honesty, her singing can be hard for this blogger to tolerate. But, there's no denying that she showed some serious fashion in her films. She's not considered the conventional definition of beauty, but there's something about those sparkling blue eyes, her shapely nose and chiseled cheek bones that make her one of the most gorgeous women out there. The sixties mod dresses in bright oranges, those over the top hats and top notch costumes make her an fashion film icon.
If you catch that negligee she's wearing with the purple hands on her bosoms, its reminiscent to me of something Sonia Rykei would design.
I love nothing more than when fashion, television and film collide. Though Ive been working in fashion for the past four years, a little known fact is that I came to New York to work on film--with my 8mm black and white film school movie in hand. My first job was as a Wardrobe Production Assistant on a horrendous indie flick dubbed the "Latino spoof on Charlie's Angels." Hey, I didn't write or create it, I just schlepped booty shorts and Lycra dresses.
So in anticipation of all the weird, wackadoo fashion I hope to see some crazy exhibitionist fashionistas wearing, Enjoy Rachel Welch dancing in this space-age bikini.
I wonder if metallic will be on trend this spring?
