Urban Outfitters is said to be launching a bridal line according to the industry insiders over at 39th and Broadway.
What is the new face of the bridal industry? With the collapse of In Style Weddings, Modern Bride and Elegant Bride print editions, who attended Bridal Fashion Week? Yes, there is one if you didn't know.
It's being said that the influence of fashion editors in print isn't what it used to be. Just read all of the articles talking about bloggers sitting front row at fashion week. (The horror!) One could conclude that the bridal industry is no different, now that the most influential references like Brides.com and In Style Weddings and when it comes to matrimony fashions only exist online.
It makes sense that a lower priced retailer like Urban Outfitters would join the ranks of J Crew and Ann Taylor in the wedding attire business. Not only do those who make wedding fashions need to think out side the box to promote, but also on who to design for.
After all, as strange as it seems to me, most brides aren't much on straying from pristine, virginal white. Why not cater to the hipster kids at a price point that the struggling model/ musician couple can afford?
Urban Outfitters Bridal is supposed to launch in February 2011, just in time for that very cliche Valentines Day Wedding. (I'm sure they mean it in the ironic way, right?)
