Fall Shoe Trend: Battle Boots

While many designers leaned towards lady-like lace and velvet on the runways for fall, the downtown girl got just as much attention. Along with leather and as always, plenty of black, designers from Marc Jacobs to Thakoon put a twist on our classic military and/or grunge inspired boots.

While some of these combat boot styles aren't quite suitable for battle, they aren't too sweet for the street. Style tips: fold them over and throw them on. Wear them high and tuck into a pair of jeans, add with tights and a skirt or even revive those Docs from the grunge days with a printed floral dress.

HELM Made by Hand: Sexy Classic Men's Boots with Charm

Man Style

Photo Courtesy of Company Agenda/ Helm

Helm Handmade boots, created by designer and entrepreneur Joshua Bingaman, takes classic men's boots back to their roots. The six styles of effortlessly cool footwear are made by leather expert shoemakers in Istanbul.

The materials are specially curated for the footwear from all over the world, with leather from Holland and Australia, and soles from Italy and France.  Carefully and with a personal touch, each shoe gets its own mold according to the designer's sketch.  The leather is cut , nailed and stitched by hand. Last they are polished up and ready for you. Yes, you!  Each shoe takes about five days, which justifies the price of $400-$600 per pair.

Guys, we love a man in no bull sh*t  custom boots. Ladies, don't feel left out. No one says you cant wear them too.

Helm Handmade shoes will be available this fall, at Atrium in New York and Miami, plus selected retailers in Texas. Orders can also be placed by phone through Helm Handmade Boots website.

Style Emporium: Witchy Woman (And Men!) Bess NYC's Goth Rock Styles for a Spooky Fall

photos: Bess NYC

Stolen from the anti-hippie punk fashion of the seventies, this past year has seen everything from jewelry, bags, shoes and even jeans adorned with grommets, spikes and pyramid studs. While the puncturing of all that can be stamped in studs is said to be a passing trend, It will always be classic style (or anti-style) in my mind.  I think Bess NYC agrees.

The expensive leather and shredded  lower east side store can probably be imitated easily with a little do -it yourself action, but any designer that can put both a man and a woman in a studded garter belt deserves some serious cred.

Though, the upside down cross necklaces and bedazzled pentagram bag are more burn-down-the-church- thrash-black metal than piss-out-a-hotel window-on-passers by-punk. And, the price point? Well, that's rich-kid-trying-to-be-a-rock star.  But still...

Check out the looks from their Fall 2009 line.
