Madeleine Vionnet's Parisian label was founded 1912. At the time, many designers favored structured pieces and corseted styles. Vionnet decided that "when a woman smiles, then her dress should smile too." It's no wonder her designs dominated the 1930's silver screen with her dresses on such feminist-friendly stars as such stars as Marlene Dietrich, Katharine Hepburn and Greta Garbo. She is credited with introducing the bias cut to the world, which is used endlessly by modern designers.
Lucky for us, the line was revived in the spring of 2009 with Rodolfo Paglialunga, formerly of Prada as creative director at the helm. While some of us would have to shell out 2 months rent for her pieces, at least we can look and lust.
