Louis Vuittton Exterminates Bugs and Mad Men Nails - The Wierdest Fashion Stories of July

In fashion, there is no shortage of quirk, but sometimes, even us who are a part of this industry say "Wow. Really?"

THE REAL CATWALK

United Bamboo's couture cat calender was circulated on every fashion blog back in October 2009.  Every month,  a new furry feline modeled one of the brand's spring runway looks. While you would expect to see this hanging in your crazy cat hoarder neighbors kitchen, apparently the young designer's thought the cool kids might want to purchase the actual looks for their pets...at $500 a pop!  The hipster haven, Opening Ceremony has two outfits available. (one is Danny's pick! Whoever the hell Danny is?) If you're cat is a boy, I guess you'll have to dress him in drag.

THE NOTORIOUS L.I.L.O.

If you're Marc Ecko and no one is paying attention to you, what do you do? You hire Lindsay Lohan to do some wierd stuff in video form. Given Ms. Lohan's public tribulations, you may guess she's not going to say no, even if she's never donned hip hop gear.

Though, one look at the teaser video proves there isn't going to be much clothing appearing at all. Yes, as expected, there are breasts, butts, and bikini lines.  Ecko says that he's "always had this idea of musin' on Lindsay Lohan." Uh huh, I bet. In the past he's "mused" on other busty blonds for the Cut and Sew campaign such as Playboy's Kendra Wilkinson.

MAD MEN GETS NAILED

Janie Bryant, the costume designer of the AMC hit show Madmen is riding this vintage advertising agency drama wave until it dies. If you'd thought to yourself: I already died my hair red like Christina Hendricks, studied every outfit on the show and bought them all, but still, something is missing! Well, you forgot the nail polish.  The designer has made a collection of colors based on "mad men era" fabric colors. They will be available in drugstores as soon as they can roll it out.

SUICIDE SALES TACTIC?

The UK store Selfridges issued an apology after creating a window display featuring an Alexander McQueen dress. In the poorest of tastes, the store displayed one of McQueen's dresses, hanging solitary from cold metal scaffolding under a over-sized lampshade. Whether or not this was intentionally eluding to the designer's untimely death, people found it upsetting. Er, those Brits and their dark humor?

More bizarre, the remorse statement was a "we're sorry" over Twitter and not an all out company public relations damage control campaign. The company Tweeted "We apologise for any offence caused. It was not intentional and the dress has been removed."

LOGOS BUG LOUIS VUITTON

Artist Mitsuhiro Okamoto's “Fashion Kitan" display at Kobe Fashion Museum was removed after Louis Vuitton's intellectual property department said that the stuffed locusts are not allowed to wear the logo.  They are claiming the bugs are not properly licenced by the company since they are made from counterfeit bags and material. The creatures also wore some "Gucci" and Chanel," though, neither of these companies have yet unleashed their own legal pesticide. Okamoto retaliated by posting a blog accusing the design house of ruining fashion and some lawyers of his own, claiming that it's an infrigment on freedom of expression.

Though, Okamoto might have an uphill battle on his hands. Louis Vuitton loves to sue, no matter how ludacris the suit. And, they win more often than they lose.
